Pererenan, Seseh, Cemagi and Munggu sit on one short stretch of Bali's south-west coast just north of Canggu. Pererenan is the most connected, about ten minutes from Canggu, with the cafes to match. Seseh and Cemagi are the quiet beachside pocket beyond it, about fifteen minutes out, and Munggu is the wider village area around them, with rice fields and a surf beach. Choose Pererenan for convenience, Seseh or Cemagi for calm.

Pererenan: the connected one
Pererenan sits directly north of Canggu and is where many long-stayers land first. It has its own beach, a strong cafe and restaurant scene, and Canggu about ten minutes away. It is also the most discovered of the four, so rents for an equivalent villa tend to run higher and good long-term stock moves quickly.
Seseh: the quiet beach village
Seseh is the beachside banjar within the wider Munggu area. The lanes run between rice fields, the beach is black volcanic sand with surf and no queue, and temple processions still have right of way. Pererenan is about seven minutes away, so its cafes work as your everyday hub while the evenings stay quiet.
Cemagi: the residential end
Cemagi runs alongside Seseh and is where the coast turns properly quiet. At Mengening Beach the Pura Gede Luhur Batu Ngaus temple stands out on the rocks, and daily life is residential rather than touristic. Canggu's schools and services are roughly fifteen to twenty minutes away, close enough for a school run.
Munggu: the wider area
Munggu is the village area in Mengwi, Badung, that takes in Seseh. Its own beach, Pantai Munggu, is wide, grey-sanded and known for surf and kites. The national press has named Munggu one of Bali's next hot spots, but so far growth has come as a handful of projects among the fields rather than a wall along the beach road.
How to choose
Decide how often you want to be in Canggu. If it's most days, Pererenan saves you the drive. If it's a few times a week, Seseh, Cemagi or Munggu give you the quiet for about five extra minutes each way.
Then spend a morning in each before you sign anything longer than a month. Photos make the four villages look the same; the lanes, the traffic at school time and the sound at night do not.
